Stream the Insanity Workout Free: What You Can Really Expect (The Good AND the Bad I Found Out)
I’ve been through the Insanity program. Truth be told:
- I lost ten pounds. And it felt like more.
- I firmed up. My butt was tighter and my abs were popping like never before when I finished.
- I shaved a minute off my 5K time without running. I quit running while doing Insanity for obvious reasons. But honestly, I got a much better cardio workout from the videos.
- I got stronger. By the end of the workout, I basically doubled how many push-ups I could do.
- I didn’t have to purchase any equipment. No bands, mats, dumbbells, or kettlebells. (Although, I do love kettlebells).
All positive, right? Yes, but there were a few negatives involved. Read this before you consider the program.
- It hurt my knees until I modified. The Insanity workout is hard on your body, no two ways about it. There’s so much jumping involved that even if you pay close attention to form, if you have any sort of joint problems, this could definitely pose a problem. I hurt my knees running years ago, but haven’t experienced any problems since–until I did Insanity. Luckily, I learned how to modify power jumps and all was well.
- It was time-consuming. I’m a busy woman. I have two kids, a full-time job, two dogs, a husband…you get it. Well, especially in month two of the program, you’re expected to workout 6 days a week for about an hour a day. To say I had trouble getting in all the workouts is an understatement.
- The people in the video were too advanced. In Shaun T’s newer video series like Cize and Insanity Max 30, he includes a modifier for the average woman to be able to keep up. But in Insanity, forget about it. Unless you are a beast, you could seriously hurt yourself trying to keep up with the monsters on the video. But to his credit, Shaun does say to go at your own pace and concentrate on form. It’s just hard when you want to keep up.
- I could barely walk after the first couple of days. This is NOT an exaggeration. After the first few days, I literally had trouble walking, I ached so bad. After about a week, my muscles started adjusting. But there’s definitely an adjustment period where you are in physical pain all day.
- I slipped in my sweat. Okay, it may sound silly, and not that it’s really a negative, but I sweat more during this workout than I ever have in my life. The negative is that the floor was always slippery. I tried putting down my yoga mat, but that just started slipping too. One time, I even fell. So prepare for the sweat, and make sure you don’t take a spill!
Of course, you’ll never know if Insanity is right for you until you try it. Click here and try the Insanity workout free for 30 days.

What About All the Before and After Photos?
All you have to do is Google to look for before and after photos and you’ll see some impressive results. Women who have dropped 50 lbs. and go from looking like potential heart attack risks to supermodels. Seems awesome, right? Well, sure. But there are a few questions to keep in mind as you look at these photos:
- How much time has passed between the before and after photos? Was the first photo taken right before starting Insanity? Was the last photo taken right after? Sometimes these photos are taken after 2 or 3 rounds of the programs. Obviously, these photos would show more dramatic results.
- Are they sucking in? I’ve noticed in some of these pictures, the before picture has someone slouching with their belly fully out, while the after picture has them standing up straight and sucking in. Of course, you’re going to look skinnier!
- What was their diet like? The actual exercise involved in Insanity is only half the battle (if that). What really melts fat is a diet change. So you have to wonder if the women in the picture followed the meal plan or not. The cool thing is though that when you sign on for Insanity, you’ll get a free meal plan to follow.
Regardless of before and after photos, it’s hard to argue: if you stick with this program, you will see results. Not only that, but you will also feel better. And that’s what really matters, right?
So Girls, Should You Try the Insanity Workout Free?
If you can make the time commitment. If you can deal with being so sore you want to cry. If your knees can take the shock. YES. Look, it’s called Insanity for a reason. This video series is not an easy way out. If you complete this entire Insanity workout, you are going to get results unless you’re eating like a pig. Just make sure you listen to your body and be careful as you go. And watch that diet!
